Why "Park Mark" and "BPA" Actually Matter

When you are scrolling through airport parking options, you will see a lot of badges. It is easy to ignore them as marketing fluff. But as someone who vets these companies, I can tell you that two of them are critical: the Park Mark and the British Parking Association (BPA) logo.

Here is what they actually mean - and why you should care.

1. The Park Mark (Police Approved)

This isn't just a sticker. It is the official "Safer Parking Scheme" award, managed by the police. To earn it, a car park must pass a physical police risk assessment of its fencing, lighting, and CCTV.

Vehicle crime is over 80% lower in Park Mark accredited facilities. If a car park doesn't have this, it hasn't been vetted by the police. It might just be an open field.

There are 7 different Park Mark badges

While the classic blue tick is the standard for safety, the police also use specialised awards for specific needs - like Electric Vehicles (Park Access EV) or Airport Meet & Greet (AM-GO).

If you see any of the Park Mark logos, it means that facility has passed a strict police assessment designed specifically for that type of parking.

2. The BPA (Professional Standards)

The British Parking Association is the industry's professional body. Members must sign a strict Code of Practice regarding customer service and complaints.

They are like the industry watchdog. In the same way you trust the GMC for doctors, Ofgem for energy, the FCA for banking, or OFCOM for telecoms the BPA sets the standards for parking. If a member fails an audit or receives too many complaints, they face a disciplinary process that can shut them down.

My Safety Checklist Before you book, do a quick "badge check" to ensure your car is safe:

  1. Look for the Park Mark: Does it have the blue tick?

  2. Verify BPA Membership: Ensure they follow the Code of Practice.

  3. Check the Photos: Is it a secure compound or just a patch of grass?

By sticking to these accredited operators, you filter out 90% of the "cowboy" companies instantly.

It is a headache, we know, but here at ABC we have done all the checks so you can relax and look forward to your trip.

Safe travels,

The ABC Team
